Male Infertility Treatment – Surgical sperm Recovery – Akanksha IVF Centre

P.E.S.A / T.E.S.A Surgical Sperm Recovery:

  • P.E.S.A / T.E.S.A: These are different procedures to retrieve sperms from the males before the suggested method of fertilization in IVF or ICSI. Both these procedures are conducted so as to be coordinated with their female partner’s egg retrieval procedure.
  • P.E.S.A: (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration):

    • P.E.S.A is a procedure performed for men who have obstructive azoospermia from either a prior vasectomy or infection.  In this procedure, a needle is inserted into the epididymis and sperm is withdrawn. It is done under local anesthesia in the operating room or office and is coordinated with their female partner’s egg retrieval.
  • T.E.S.A: (Testicular sperm aspiration):

    • If sperm cannot be found in the epididymis, TESA is used to extract sperm from testicular tissue, and the needle is inserted directly into the testis. Testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) is a procedure performed for men where sperm are being retrieved for in vitro fertilization or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI).  This procedure is performed on the male under local anesthesia in the operating room. In this procedure a needle is inserted directly into the testicles and the tissue or sperms are aspirated from there.  TESA is performed for men with obstructive azoospermia. TESA at times may not provide enough tissue or sperms and an open testis biopsy may be required.
