IUI treatment – Akanksha IVF Centre

IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination)

iuiThis is a process where a catheter is used to place  number of washed sperms directly inside the uterus of a woman. The main objective of this procedure is to increase the number of sperms inside the fallopian tubes of the woman so that they can increase the chances of fertilization of the egg.
IUI is a treatment which is employed by the doctor when a couple has been trying to conceive for over a year unsuccessfully.

It is a condition which is selected by the doctor in the following conditions:

  • Unexplained infertility.
  • Poor sperm count.
  • Poor sperm motility.
  • Unfavorable cervical factors.
  • Ejaculatory dysfunction.
  • Possible requirement of donor sperm.

This procedure provides an advantage to the sperm but the sperm still has to reach and enter the egg on its own to ensure conception. It is a simple procedure which can be conducted by the IVF specialist by ensuring adequate stimulation of the patient’s ovaries. The progress is monitored by an ultrasound to review the size of the ovum. IUI does not take much time and has minimal discomfort. The subsequent step is to wait and watch for the signs and symptoms of conception.

The average rate of success in IUI procedures is around 20% in one cycle. Women under the age of 35 years stand a better chance of conceiving than those above 35 years. The rate of success with IUI depends to a large extent on the quality and health of both the sperms and eggs.
